Hooded Friar Press Announces Forthcoming Release of 'King of Nod' by Award-Winning Novelist Scott Fad

Brentwood, TN (PRWEB) June 2, 2008 -- Hooded Friar Press announces the forthcoming release of "King of Nod" by Scott Fad. "King of Nod" (ISBN: 978-0-9817609-0-2, $17.99) will be available where better books are sold on October 31, 2008.

Written by critically-acclaimed novelist Scott Fad, "King of Nod" takes readers deep into a world as steeped with tradition as it is with superstition: secluded Sweetpatch Island, a lonely strip of land off the coast of South Carolina.

On Sweetpatch Island, legend and lore reign supreme. At the turn of the 19th Century, Joker Tribbit, a descendant of slaves, was lynched on the island, and legend has it that Tribbit's ghost, in the form of a ferocious Beast, returns generation after generation to seek vengeance for his murder.

In 1971, protagonist Boo Taylor, then a 13 year old, witnesses the brutal slaying of a young child and is drawn deep into the mystery of Joker Tribbit and his widow, Bathsheba, a notorious Gullah witch. Boo, the adopted son of the island's only white physician, falls in love with Gussie Dutton, a red-haired hellion from the wrong side of the salt marsh. Together, under the protective hand of a gentle old woman, Boo and Gussie confront fires, murders, and the great Beast itself to survive the terrifying legacy of enduring hatred and bigotry.

At the turn of a new century, Sweetpatch Island has become a land of golf courses, resort hotels, and tourist-filled beaches. Those old superstitions have surely been paved under by the modern world. Or have they?

Twenty years later, Boo Taylor, now a grown man, is summoned home upon news of his father's strange death. Back on Sweetpatch Island, Boo confronts the friends and enemies of his childhood, including his long-lost love. As his homecoming reawakens the ancient forces that haunt the island, Boo Taylor will discover that some things never die.

Seamless, suspenseful, and spellbinding, "King of Nod" mesmerizes with its hypnotic plot and enchanting cast of characters destined to stay with readers long after the final page is turned. Alternately charming and chilling, terrifying and tender, "King of Nod" is a masterful work of fiction.

Peter Honsberger, Publisher at Hooded Friar Press, commented, "We are thrilled to announce the release of "King of Nod," a work that is nothing short of brilliant. Scott Fad is a dynamic new voice in the world of Southern Gothic fiction, and it is an honor to have Scott as part of the Hooded Friar family.
